Benefits
of having a mentor
A mentor: promotes genuine
growth and change
is a model to follow
helps you efficiently reach your goals
plays a key role in God’s pattern for your growth
benefits other people in your life
What
to look for in a mentor
First you should honestly
evaluate yourself and realize your areas of weakness and need.
Next set goals for change and growth. Then look for a mentor with these
qualifications.
- A mentor who seems to
have what you need and has developed these capacities herself.
- A mentor who cultivates
relationships, and is willing to give of herself to another.
- A mentor who is willing
to take a chance on you and invest her time energy, emotions and
trust.
- A mentor who is
respected by other Christians and has a good reputation outside the
church.
- A mentor who is
consulted by others.
- A mentor who both talks
and listens. Communication is essential and is a two way street
- A mentor whose life
style is consistent with what she says she believes.
- A mentor who is able to
diagnose your needs, even those you’re not aware of.
- A
mentor who is concerned with your interests and wants you to succeed.
